This is a personal website. I'm not selling anything, I'm not running ads, and I have zero interest in building a profile of you. I just want to write things and have people read them. Maybe comment on them.

Still, a website in 2026 can't be completely invisible, so here's an honest list of everything that happens when you visit.

What I collect

Only what you hand over to me yourself.

Comments. If you leave a comment, the form asks for your name, your website (optional), and, well, your comment. That's it. No email, no account, no sign in. The comment arrives in my GitHub repository as a pull request, waits there until I read it, and once I approve it, it gets published on the post with your name and website. Because that's the whole point of a comment.

The contact form. If you use the contact form, you give me your name, your email, and your message. It lands in my inbox. I use your email to reply to you, and for absolutely nothing else. No newsletters, no "we've updated our terms" emails. Nothing.

Both forms are processed by Netlify, the company that hosts this site.

Cookies

This site doesn't set any cookies of its own.

The exception is the comment form, which uses Google's reCAPTCHA. Believe me, I tried to avoid it. But spam is rampant, and the alternative was spending my evenings deleting comments about crypto and pills from bots. reCAPTCHA sets its own cookies and sends some information to Google to figure out if you're a human. That's covered by Google's privacy policy, not mine, and I'm sorry about it. If you don't comment, you don't load it.

The light/dark mode toggle remembers your choice in your browser's local storage. That stays on your device. I never see it.

Analytics

I use Simple Analytics, which doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you as an individual. It tells me things like "12 people read the post about t-shirts today", which is both all I need to know and slightly humbling.

Other people's stuff

Some posts have embedded YouTube videos. I use the youtube-nocookie.com version, which shouldn't set cookies until you hit play. Once you do, you're in YouTube's house, and their rules apply.

Webmentions (mentions of my posts on other websites) are fetched from webmention.io and shown below posts. If you mentioned one of my posts publicly on your site, your public name, avatar, and link might show up here.

Your data, your call

If you want a comment removed, or your name or website changed, or you just want to know what I have, send me a message or email contact@axel.mx. I'll take care of it. No forms in triplicate, no 30-day waiting period. Just a person (me) clicking a button.

Changes

If anything here changes, I'll update this page and the date below.
