Axel Valdez
Design Engineer

I'm a Design Engineer living in Hermosillo, Mexico. I've been working in the software development industry for pretty much my entire adult life, in roles related to both front-end development and design. Here's my resume in case you're interested in that kind of thing.
I'm a big believer on the open web, free access, and web standards, and that's probably why this website exists. I recently came across the concept of the small web, and I'm pretty much into it. Also, over the last years I've left most of social media, and all that that is why I have a blog again.
I tend to obsess over things that I like. I'm into music, podcasts, zines, movies, TV, and whatever I add to the pile this week.
On the personal side of things, I'm dad to two kids, the older is a prodigy in chess, and the younger is a creative spirit, always inventing and building things, and talking about them non-stop.
I also have two cats: Sugar and Batsy, and a dog: a blind blue heeler named Susana Babish. The three of them love to sleep all day long and noisily party at night.
I live with my partner, and we love hiking, watching TV and cooking.
I'm a very anxious person, prone to depression, and I have ADHD. I try to stay away from the news as much as I can, and my pursuit of happiness is basically a pursuit for calmness. "No alarms and no surprises" is my nirvana.
On the same line of thought, I left most of social media a while ago. Facebook first, then Twitter, then when Twitter was wrecked by Musk and company I explored Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon. The first made me angry, the second is super boring and political, and the third one I keep forgetting to use. So I kept Instagram, and I'm eternally trying not to fall into doomscrolling.
I'm exploring and subscribing to blogs lately, in a very 2003 fashion. And I'm liking the slow pacing.
